Possibly one of the most revered and personally, beloved comics of all time is Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series. It combines the greatest aspects of a graphic novel into an epic prose that leaves a lasting imprint on those wise enough to venture into that world.

Sandman: a must read epic

I have a great deal of respect for this series because this has paved a very integral step in light of my 10 year old self’s dream: that is, to raise the level of comic books to greater literary heights. Neil Gaiman’s did such a thing as this was certainly one of those comics that changed the way the medium can be handled. I speak of course of the extensive amount of philosophy and lore that it contained — among other things, the stories in each individual book deviate from the usual content of comics as it handles more mature themes as well as pierce through the psyche of its readers if given much thought.

I honestly believe that the story itself can relate to people of all ages. It’s simply a book that whenever I’d read again, I’d learn something new about the world, about the reality we live in. Add the fact that Dave McKean did one hell of a job providing much of the illustrations for each story — the art of Sandman relates intimately to the story it’s telling and if you’ve read enough Sandman stories, you’d notice that it feels different at every arc.

Okay, I’m going to cut this one short but I’m going to spend the upcoming month reviewing some of my all time favorite Sandman stories.
