“Mara, Daughter of the Nile” by Eloise Jarvis McGraw is a romantic love story of my namesake. What pity…

“Mara, Daughter of the Nile” reminds me of the Harlequin books and the Joan Collins books that I read before I knew anything about literature. That is, it has all the “kilig moments”, the predictable plot twists, and the lush descriptions that bored me to tears.  The only different feature that “Mara, Daughter of the Nile” has from those trashy novels is that this book has no physically intimate scenes. That’s a relief.

I asked my students (the ones I borrowed  “Mara, Daughter of the Nile” from) what they think about the novel. And they said that they enjoyed it. This is because “Mara, Daughter of the Nile” is a love story and they rarely get the chance to read love stories. I have to admit that “Mara, Daughter of the Nile” is good for teens who are interested in Romance. The description of Egypt is satisfactory but I failed to learn anything new about this exotic country from this book.

This book is a good light read that will definitely give you a good night’s sleep. Recommended for insomniacs.

And that’s “Mara, Daughter of the Nile” Unclanked!
